The
Government unveiled plans to create a world-class data science hub in Wales.
This ground breaking project will modernise the Office of National Statistics
to produce innovative, precise and timely statistics.
The PESTEL
model shall discuss the ONS and its project and analyse its main factors in the
UK government.
POLITICAL –The
government created an Independent Regulation and Evaluation office to support governance
of the statistics and make full use of the administrative data held by the
government.
ECONOMICAL
–The data centre will provide real time results for the economy and labour
markets. This will improve the ONS capabilities to measure changes in the
digital economy.
SOCIOLOGICAL
–“Data is the fuel on which we can make the best and strongest decisions for
the public. The very best policies and services are developed around
information that’s current and accessible.” Minister for the cabinet office
Matt Hancock speaking at the ONS on Thursday March 17.
TECHNOLOGICAL
–The hub will focus on techniques to change how we manage data using cutting
edge techniques such as web scraping. This processes will create the 30 skilled
roles bridging the technology skills gap and building new skills within the
existing workforce.
ENVIRONMENTAL
– The ONS will have to pay for carbon credit points for the amount of carbon
emissions they will produce during the construction phase.
LEGAL –UK
makes policies and regulations that the Welsh comply with according to the
project guidelines. Wales Office Minister Alun Cairns at the ONS said, “The UK
government and Wales office is determined to play its part in building on that
excellence.”
